Greeningwood is 2.09 wooded acres west of Cheshire, Oregon. The property is the fulfillment of our dream to have a place of rest and respite to share with others. The 12th century Abbess and mystic, Hildegard von Bingen, invented many words to express her vivid experience of the Divine. Among her words was “veriditas” which can be translated “greening power”. For Hildegard, the greening power of God is the divine presence exalted in God’s creation. Our original vision was for a place where people encounter veriditas hense the name, Greeningwood. As we’ve lived into our dream, we’ve discovered that Greeningwood is also about healing the planet and ourselves.
About the Rev. Micki Shirey
I’m an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, working as a hospital chaplain in Eugene, Oregon. I’ve been contemplating healing ministry in its many forms since moving into full-time hospital ministry two years ago. I’m a 2003 graduate of Episcopal Divinity School and completed my Clinical Pastoral Education at PeaceHealth/Sacred Heart Medical Center (where I now work as a chaplain.) I’m a member of First Congregational Church in Eugene and remain a friend of the Episcopal Church, in particular, St. Mary’s, Eugene, although God’s greening in my life called me away from my church of origin into the fullness of life I find in my church of choice.
My partner, Ann, is a Physician Assistant and a vocational deacon in the Episcopal Church. Her care for under-served patient populations and the care of caregivers inspires me.

Beautiful.

Dear Micki
I was touched to read the meaning(s) behind your habitat’s name. “Veriditas” came into my life about 15 years ago–it was, in the beginning, as though I just really saw the color green for the first time and fell in love with it. The world was experienced and seen through this “green fire” of healing and growth. I look forward to being in your dwelling place ! Judith
I arrived here hoping to find a long lost cousin! Oh well, I reckon you’re family after all. You have a nice blog.
